BC Books Online was created for anyone interested in BC-published books, and with librarians especially in mind. We'd like to make it easy for library staff to learn about books from BC publishers - both new releases and backlist titles - so you can inform your patrons and keep your collections up to date.
Our site features print books and ebooks - both new releases and backlist titles - all of which are available to order through regular trade channels. Browse our subject categories to find books of interest or create and export lists by category to cross-reference with your library's current collection.
A quick tip: When reviewing the "Browse by Category" listings, please note that these are based on standardized BISAC Subject Codes supplied by the books' publishers. You will find additional selections, grouped by theme or region, in our "BC Reading Lists."
It began in childhood, when Bruce was a little distant, and progressed into adolescence when Bruce was withdrawn and aggressive but it wasn't until he attempted suicide that the root of Bruce's behaviour was discovered--schizophrenia. After years of successful and unsuccessful treatments, setbacks and progressions, institutionalization and independence, Bruce's life is altered forever as the voices inside his head drive him to commit the most unthinkable act known to mankind. Doris Ray, Bruce's mother, tells the real-life story of living with her son as he struggles with the horrors of schizophrenia. As Doris describes the devastating effects on her family, finances and community, The Ghosts Behind Him also provides insight to important social issues such as mental health care and the legal system.
Doris Ray, a mother of four and a grandmother of five, lives in Fraser Lake in west-central British Columbia where she writes a column for the local newspaper. She is an active member in the Historical Society, the Writing Group and Library Board. She has published articles on mental health, travel and local history. Her first book is The Ghosts Behind Him. She has also published two chapbooks of poetry.
