BC Books Online was created for anyone interested in BC-published books, and with librarians especially in mind. We'd like to make it easy for library staff to learn about books from BC publishers - both new releases and backlist titles - so you can inform your patrons and keep your collections up to date.
Our site features print books and ebooks - both new releases and backlist titles - all of which are available to order through regular trade channels. Browse our subject categories to find books of interest or create and export lists by category to cross-reference with your library's current collection.
A quick tip: When reviewing the "Browse by Category" listings, please note that these are based on standardized BISAC Subject Codes supplied by the books' publishers. You will find additional selections, grouped by theme or region, in our "BC Reading Lists."
The stories in 'Sugar Bush & Other Stories' deal with gender relations, love, and sex in a frank way. Most of the pieces feature female protagonists who navigate their young adult years in some questionable ways. They make some ill-advised choices, which are driven by their naïve quests for "individuality," while at the same time having an almost pathological need to be loved by everyone-especially men. While the stories in 'Sugar Bush' are intended for an adult audience, they employsome of the conventions of the young adult genre. They are simple, straight-ahead narratives. Part breathless teenaged confessional and part wistful and wiser looks back, 'Sugar Bush' is the first collection of short fiction by award-winning author, Jenn Farrell.
"Populated by eccentrics, 'Sugar Bush' is a collection of coming-of-age stories. What makes them unique and engaging in what is often an overwrought genre is Farrell's humour and sense of irony."
Jenn Farrell is a two-time winner of the 'Vancouver Courier' fiction contest, recipient of the 2002 Maclean-Hunter Endowment Prize for non-fiction, and a contributor to CBC radio.
