BC Books Online was created for anyone interested in BC-published books, and with librarians especially in mind. We'd like to make it easy for library staff to learn about books from BC publishers - both new releases and backlist titles - so you can inform your patrons and keep your collections up to date.
Our site features print books and ebooks - both new releases and backlist titles - all of which are available to order through regular trade channels. Browse our subject categories to find books of interest or create and export lists by category to cross-reference with your library's current collection.
A quick tip: When reviewing the "Browse by Category" listings, please note that these are based on standardized BISAC Subject Codes supplied by the books' publishers. You will find additional selections, grouped by theme or region, in our "BC Reading Lists."
In his take-no-prisoners style of verse and performance, Avery celebrates the virtues of the bohemian brigade, late-nite denizens of inconvenient beauty, the dissolute and the temporary, lawless black leather pioneers of innovation, and every battle scared member of this "helpless grey sky tribe." Like a cross between Lenny Bruce and Anis Nin, Avery's poetry is alternately profane, brilliantly vulgar, unsettling, outrageously funny and brash in it's lonesome courage, and unquestionably original.
Praise for Some Birds Walk for the Hell of It:
"... there's some really solid work in here that will tickle the bongos on any beat/slam fan." (Broken Pencil)
Praise for CR Avery:
"Audacious and astounding; 5 star" (David Burke, London Time Out)
"international treasure" (Julie Holland)
C.R. Avery was born in Smith Falls, Ontario in 1976. He is the author of two previous collections of poetry: Magic Hour Sailor Songs and 38 Bar Blues. He has released 17 albums, written and directed three musicals that have been produced in New York, L.A, Seattle and San Francisco. Avery has toured ruthlessly throughout North America, Europe and Australia with his rock & roll punk ensembles, hip-hop circus's with 12-bar blues overtones, and his infamous string quartets and burlesque revues. Some Birds Walk for the Hell of It is his third book of poems. He presently resides in Vancouver's Little Italy neighbourhood.
