BC Books Online was created for anyone interested in BC-published books, and with librarians especially in mind. We'd like to make it easy for library staff to learn about books from BC publishers - both new releases and backlist titles - so you can inform your patrons and keep your collections up to date.
Our site features print books and ebooks - both new releases and backlist titles - all of which are available to order through regular trade channels. Browse our subject categories to find books of interest or create and export lists by category to cross-reference with your library's current collection.
A quick tip: When reviewing the "Browse by Category" listings, please note that these are based on standardized BISAC Subject Codes supplied by the books' publishers. You will find additional selections, grouped by theme or region, in our "BC Reading Lists."
In Real Mothers, a collection of short stories, Audrey Thomas journeys to France, Greece and Africa; she also writes about Galiano Island, B.C., where she lived while these stories were taking shape. Real Mothers concerns itself with women who, in one way or another, are mothers; with mothers and daughters; with mothers and husbands—or lovers; and with mothers alone.
Audrey Thomas is the author of Latakia (1979), Mrs. Blood (1992), Real Mothers (1981) and Songs My Mother Taught Me (1993), all published by Talonbooks. She is a two-time winner of the BC Book Prize for Fiction. Thomas was born in upstate New York and now lives and works on Galiano Island, B.C. In 2008, Thomas was made a member of the Order of Canada.
“Thomas demands more of her readers than most writers, but the rewards are much greater too.”

“These stories are for … anyone who admires a writer in masterly control of her material.”
