About the Authors

Roy Miki teaches contemporary literature at Simon Fraser University. He has published widely on Asian- Canadian literature as well as writers such as bpNichol, George Bowering, and Roy Kiyooka. He is the author of Broken Entries: Race, Subjectivity, Writing and received the Governor General’s Award for his poetry book Surrender.


Slavia Miki is a life coach and studied feng shui under the late Henry Dorst. She earned her teacher’s licence in ikebana while living in Tokyo.


Stéphane Jorisch's work has won many awards, including three Governor General's Awards for Illustration. He lives in Montreal, Quebec.

Roy & Slavia Miki's previous title for Tradewind Books, Dolphin SOS (illustrated by Julie Flett), won the BC Book Prize. Roy Miki's book of poetry, Surrender, won the Governor General's Literary Award for poetry.He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a Member of the Order of British Columbia.

Stéphane Jorisch has won many awards, including the Governor General's Award for Children's Illustration (three times), the Ruth Schwartz Award and was shortlisted for the Blue Spruce Award and the Amelia Frances Howard—Gibbon Award. He lives in Montreal with his family.
