BC Books Online was created for anyone interested in BC-published books, and with librarians especially in mind. We'd like to make it easy for library staff to learn about books from BC publishers - both new releases and backlist titles - so you can inform your patrons and keep your collections up to date.
Our site features print books and ebooks - both new releases and backlist titles - all of which are available to order through regular trade channels. Browse our subject categories to find books of interest or create and export lists by category to cross-reference with your library's current collection.
A quick tip: When reviewing the "Browse by Category" listings, please note that these are based on standardized BISAC Subject Codes supplied by the books' publishers. You will find additional selections, grouped by theme or region, in our "BC Reading Lists."
When Anne Cameron was growing up, she befriended Klopinum, a Native elder in her Vancouver Island town. Klopinum entertained her young friend with her people's stories of the way things were when the world was young, and Anne was so fascinated that Klopinum requested, when she became a grown woman herself, that she pass the stories on to the children of her time.
These are stories of how Raven freed the moon when an old fisherwoman trapped it in a cedar chest; of how Loon lost her voice while she was rescuing daylight from evil spirits who had taken it prisoner; of how the world's water disappeared, and it was up to Raven to release it from the belly of a giant frog; of the love between Orca and Osprey, and how their union produced a new animal, which we call the killer whale. All these and more, are heard on Loon and Raven Tales, where for the first time we can hear the humour and wisdom of Anne Cameron's prose shine through in the author's captivating readings of classic west coast lore.
