BC Books Online was created for anyone interested in BC-published books, and with librarians especially in mind. We'd like to make it easy for library staff to learn about books from BC publishers - both new releases and backlist titles - so you can inform your patrons and keep your collections up to date.
Our site features print books and ebooks - both new releases and backlist titles - all of which are available to order through regular trade channels. Browse our subject categories to find books of interest or create and export lists by category to cross-reference with your library's current collection.
A quick tip: When reviewing the "Browse by Category" listings, please note that these are based on standardized BISAC Subject Codes supplied by the books' publishers. You will find additional selections, grouped by theme or region, in our "BC Reading Lists."
The Essential Stankiewicz gathers together a selection of the core materials from a lifetime of writing by one of the most eminent political philosophers of our time. Written in a clear and lucid style, this volume can be appreciated by both the professional political scientist and the educated layman interested in the concepts and issues that have formed our time.
W.J. Stankiewicz, who taught at the University of British Columbia for thirty years, is Professor of Political Science (Emeritus). He is the author/editor of some 16 volumes, including the trilogy - Aspects of Political Theory (1976), Approaches to Democracy (1980), In Search of a Political Philosophy (1993) - and several volumes of aphorisms. In 1997 Ronsdale Press published Holding One's Time in Thought, a collection of essays in his honour and analyzing his political thought.
