by Paul St Pierre

tagged: westerns, historical
Description

"Smith, man of moderate ambition, unknown first name, and dubious companions, has a quarter horse he is convinced has become one of the Chilcotin country's great cutting horses. In the hands of master stroyteller Paul St. Pierre, this simple Western tale -- the path from quarter horse of good stock to cutting horse of skill and finesse -- is strewn with unforeseen obstacles, unforgettable characters and the kidn of earthy humour that will have you laughing out loud. Warm, evocative and wryly written, Breaking Smith's Quarter Horse is a true Canadian classic."

Editorial Reviews

"Smith and his cronies are a vanishing breed and more's the pity. But to read about them is to recall a time and place where people may not have had much in the way of creature comforts but they sure had a sense of humour."

— Vancouver Sun

"St. Pierre's gift is his utility with the language of the common speech and his ability to conjure the most elaborate imagery and atmosphere from the most sparse, proletarian prose."

— Georgia Straight

"Paul St. Pierre is decidedly on of the Northern Lights, a writer whose integrity and brilliance make his stories seem a spontaneous consequence of the land itself. It has been an honour to look up ot him all these years."

— Thomas McGuane
